Stephen Moore on Australia v New Zealand

Australia captain Stephen Moore felt for the fans who witnessed their 42-8 hammering at the hands of New Zealand in their Rugby Championship opener at ANZ Stadium.

The Wallabies' only first-half points came from the boot of Bernard Foley as they went into the interval 32-3 behind to a rampant All Blacks side.

Despite improving after the interval and scoring a consolation try through Nick Phipps five minutes from time, the defeat proved their heaviest when facing the reigning world champions on home soil.

Moore expressed his sympathy for the Australian supporters in attendance and admitted a vastly superior performance will be required in Wellington next weekend.

"I don't know what to say. I feel for all our fans who came out tonight. It just wasn't good enough from us," said Moore in his post-match stadium interview.

"I thought we clawed back in there in the second half but it was too big a lead.

"We prepared well and trained really hard in the last three weeks. We thought we were ready to play well tonight but we need to go back and look at all that.

"We've got another game next week so we've got to keep pushing and try and turn things around for them [the fans]."
