Sam Tomkins has warned Wigan Warriors fans not to expect too much too soon as he prepares to restart his Super League against Hull FC on Friday.

The 27-year-old re-signed for Wigan from New Zealand Warriors last year, but a knee injury suffered during his final NRL match required surgery and has seen him yet to make an appearance.

However, the full-back will feature against Hull FC after returning to training last week and getting the all clear from Wigan's medical staff.

"I'm feeling good, I've felt ready to play for a few weeks but the medical staff are great here and they know better than me," he told a media conference.

"I'm realistic. I won't come out on Friday and be flying. I think I can certainly add to the team though."

Reflecting on his injury, Tomkins added: "It was tough for a few months, when I re-signed for Wigan I didn't expect to miss so many games.

"The last month has flown by [though], I was sick of seeing the gym.

"It's all been new to me, I've never had an injury before. Hopefully it's the first and last. I've been able to reflect on my time here, I'm lucky to be at such a great club.
