McGary, who made 20 appearances for the Thunder in 2015-16 averaging 1.3 points, released a statement apologising for the violation and vowing not to let it happen again.
The 24-year-old left the University of Michigan early after testing positive for marijuana following an NCAA Tournament game against Tennessee in 2014.
The often-injured power forward has had limited playing time since being selected 21st overall by Oklahoma City in the 2014 draft.
McGary's suspension came down hours after he wrapped up Summer League play in Orlando, where he averaged 14 points and 4.3 rebounds in four games.
