World's most sought after destination by retail brands
Taunted to be the world's largest commercial real estate services firm, CBRE Group, recently came out with a report titled: How Global is the Business of Retail?
The essence of the report was to identify the world’s highest shopping destination and new retail brands establishment.
According to the report, Tokyo came out tops, with 63 new retail brands setting up shop in the city.
Following closely behind was Singapore with 58 new retail brands.
London was adjudged the world's most international shopping destination, with Dubai and Shanghai following respectively.
According to Jonathan Hsu, Head of Occupier Markets Research, CBRE Asia Pacific, "the continued desire for expansion into new cities remains high for international brands. We are seeing a great deal of expansion into Asia and in particular into Tokyo, Singapore and Taipei.”
He also stated that 'Tokyo's domestic demand is expected to strengthen by the number of tourists the local government has pledged to attract by 2020, however, overseas brands will continue to expand to exploit the growing consumption in this market. Elsewhere, in Singapore, food and beverage operators were most active whilst Taipei has become a hotspot for Japanese and Korean fashion and cosmetics brands.'
