The Toronto Maple Leafs have the first pick of the 2016 NHL Draft after Saturday's lottery.

Thanks to the lottery system, the Toronto Maple Leafs will have the first pick of the 2016 NHL Draft.

The Maple Leafs had the best odds with a 20 per cent chance of getting the top pick because they had the NHL's worst record during the regular season.

The Winnipeg Jets will follow with the number two pick and the Columbus Blue Jackets hold number three.

Toronto are the first Original Six team to have the number one pick since 2007, when the Chicago Blackhawks chose right wing Patrick Kane.

The last time the Maple Leafs selected number one was in the 1985 NHL Draft, when they chose defenseman/left wing Wendel Clark.

Scheduled for June 24-25, the Leafs will likely select Auston Matthews.

The 14 teams who did not qualify for the play-offs leading to the Stanley Cup were entered into the lottery system. Below is the draft order for those 14 teams:
