England head coach Trevor Bayliss expects batsmen to use their heads rather than just try to "whack" the ball out of the ground.

Trevor Bayliss has urged England's Twenty20 batsman to cut out the rash strokes after they were consigned to a 2-0 series defeat by South Africa.

England ended their tour with a whimper when the Proteas eased to a nine-wicket win with 32 balls to spare at the Wanderers on Sunday.

Eoin Morgan's side lost seven wickets for 14 runs after reaching 157-3 in the 17th over and South Africa had no such trouble in their reply, with AB de Villiers (71) and Hashim Amla (69 not out) putting on 125 for the first wicket.

England's shortcomings do not bode well for their hopes of winning the World Twenty20 for the second time in India and head coach Bayliss wants to see better shot selection from his batsmen.

"Instead of trying to whack the ball for fours and sixes all the time we've got to play more cricket shots." said the Australian.

"In India the wickets and grounds are fairly quick so you have only got to play proper cricket shots and the ball will go for four and six.

"The last couple of games we have got into the habit of trying to hit the ball into the top of the stand and ended up hitting balls straight at fielders. It comes down to better execution."

Bayliss also expects the bowlers to raise their game.

He added: "We have to come up with better plans and bowl to our field,

"If we have got more fielders on the off-side then there is no point bowling half-trackers down the leg-side. It is very simple stuff to be honest. Set a field and bowl to it."
