Trio of birdies sees Wang earn maiden win

Jeunghun Wang demonstrated nerves of steel to claim his first European Tour title, birdieing the 18th hole three times in a row at the Trophee Hassan II.

The South Korean initially rolled in a mid-range putt on the par-five last to finish regulation play at five under and force a play-off with Nacho Elvira, who also ended his fourth round with a birdie.

An even more impressive four followed from Wang, courtesy of a 50-foot putt, when the duo returned to 18. And Elvira was finally beaten when Wang rolled in another birdie try on the second play-off hole to bring the tournament to an end.

After becoming the fourth successive first-time winner on the European Tour, Wang said: "I'm so excited, I won't sleep tonight.

"Soomin Lee is a friend of mine and I was happy to see him win the Shenzhen International [last month]. But now I've won also, so maybe we'll have a party."

A dramatic finale saw the lead change hands on numerous occasions, with Clement Berardo and Robert Rock each hitting the front only to slip back.

Elvira climbed out of a five-way tie and claimed sole possession of first when he birdied 18, following an approach to no more than a foot, to complete a 69 - the second-best round of the final day.

However, Wang was able to match the Spaniard's closing four before finding two further birdies in the play-off.

Berardo and Rock also finished with fours to finish one shot off the pace, while third-round leader Chris Hanson had to settle for a share of fifth at three under after a closing 75.
