Periscope gets over 1 million subscribers within 10 days
Twitter released the first official news about the growth of it live-streaming acquisition Periscope yesterday, with CEO DickCostolo saying that more than 1 million people signed in to the app in just the first 10 days after it was launched on March26. Periscope’s growth is being closely watched by industry shareholders, especially since it’s been in a heated battle with competitor Meerkat for the mobile live-streaming market.
The figures are only for iOS because Periscope is yet to launch on Android. Periscope is now at No. 167 in the overall iOS chart and No. 22 in U.S social networking according to App Annie. In contrast, Meerkat seems to have fallen out of grace to No. 129 in the U.S-social networking charts.
From all indications, if Twitter is a way for you to know what someone is thinking, Periscope is a way to see what they are seeing in real-time, whether its news, celebrities connecting with fans, or simply interesting content, all of Twitter’s top styles of tweets would even be more vivid with live-streamed video.
