The Ministry says these new rules  already stipulated in the Public Service  Standing Order are being implemented because it has observed public service workers do not portray a good image of the service.

Dressing decently is defined by the Ministry as "dressing in a manner that is socially acceptable and generally considered to be smart, good, reasonable and portrays a good image of the public service."

The document containing the rules of dressing was tweeted by @observerug a privately-owned Ugandan newspaper.

The notice prohibits women from wearing bright hair, showing cleavage, having long nails, too much make up, wearing tight trousers etc.

The men are also to keep their hair short and neat, wear dark colours and no tight trousers.

This new directive has angered some Twitter users in Uganda. One Twitter user @ Kasabiiti tweeted “Is it what you wear to work that matters or if you get your job done?”
