Avalanche end Kings' run, Seker inspires Oilers

The Los Angeles Kings' run of five successive wins in the NHL came to an end after suffering a 4-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Monday.

Avalanche defender Tyson Barrie scored twice in the second period either side of Tyler Toffoli's goal on the power play to give the home side a 2-1 lead going into the third period.

Forward Matt Duchene gave the Avalanche some space 83 seconds into the third period, before Jarome Iginla made sure of the victory with less than seven minutes to go, both goals assisted by Barrie.

Ighala's goal was the 38-year-old's 600th in the NHL, making him just the 19th player in league history to reach the milestone.

The Edmonton Oilers secured back-to-back wins thanks to an overtime goal from Andrej Sekera, who inspired a 1-0 shutout of the Carolina Hurricanes.

Oilers goaltender Cam Talbot made 29 saves, while his Hurricanes counterpart Cam Ward contributed with 26 saves.

The Ottawa Senators came from 2-0 down to secure a 3-2 come-from-behind overtime win against the St Louis Blues.

Goals to Troy Brouwer and Kevin Shattenkirk had the Blues ahead at 27 minutes, 42 seconds before Mike Hoffman pulled one back for the Senators.

Bobby Ryan scored five minutes into the third period to level the game, with the forward scoring the winning goal early in the additional stanza.

The Detroit Red Wings sealed a 1-0 win over the New Jersey Devils, while the Arizona Coyotes held on for a 3-2 win against the Vancouver Canucks.
