Five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams does not expect her run to the 2016 singles semi-finals to be her last hurrah.

Williams, 36, last featured in the final four of a grand slam at the 2010 US Open, but has been resurgent since last year.

Although she missed the chance to meet sister Serena in Saturday's final at the All England Club, the seven-time major winner hopes to be back in 2017.

"I would love to [return next year]. It's all in the plans. If it's different, I'll be sure to let you know," said Williams.

Fourth seed Angelique Kerber brought an end to Williams' campaign with a 6-4 6-4 victory on Centre Court on Thursday.

Despite her exit, the American is remaining upbeat about her future.

"You know, [I was] steps away from making it to the end. That's the position I want to be in, is playing in the semi-finals, playing for a space in the final. That's what I want. So it's a lot of positives, for sure," Williams added.

"I'm playing a lot of big events coming up this summer, like the Olympics, the US Open, the US Open Series. This is a great start.

"Honestly, there was a lot of great tennis at the French [Open], too, so a lot of good things."

Williams offered praise to Kerber, admitting she was the better player on the day.

"She played so well – credit to her for playing well. [It is her] second final of the year. It shows she's doing something right," she said.

"I mean, totally I wanted to win. What are you going to do? You just step up and do the best you can. I ran into a better player, so next time."
