A circuit court in Kumasi presided over by Mrs Mary Nsenkyire has adjourned to May 18 the 13 members of pro-New Patriotic Party group Delta Force, who escaped from court during trial.

She granted a request by the prosecution to allow the Attorney General's Department to have a copy of the docket.

The prosecutor, ACP Okyere Darko said the AG's Department requested a duplicate of the docket to study it for necessary advice.

Lawyers for the accused persons have said the prosecution has no evidence against their clients but will, however, wait patiently for the AG.

Each of the 13 is to execute a bail bond of GHS10,000 with two sureties each to be justified.

They are also to submit photocopies of their valid ID cards and report to the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service each week.

Background

Some members of Delta Force, a vigilante group associated with the governing New Patriotic Party, besieged the Kumasi Circuit Court and freed the 13 members who were facing charges for attacking the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator.

Reports suggest that the group nearly assaulted the Judge, Mary Senkyire and also destroyed some court properties.

Thirteen (13) members of the group were detained after the group assaulted the newly appointed Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, George Adjei.

The 13 members faced charges of a conspiracy to commit crime, assault on a public officer, causing unlawful damage.

The 13 are Kojo Fosu Bamba aka Kojo Bamba, Awal Sadat Abubakar, Abubakar Sadiq Abuhammed, Jamil Issa, Hamza Mohammed, Salu Issahak, Akwasi Owusu, Kwabena Owusu, Kofi Kyei, Eggya Boadi, Salu Yussif, Yussif Salu and Kwaku Awortwe.

Meanwhile, the 13 members of the Delta Force have been fined a total of Gh¢31,200.

The 13 pleaded guilty to the offence of escaping from lawful custody, and were fined GH¢2,400 each when they were arraigned before the court on Tuesday, April 11, 2017.
