‘Don’t snap selfies with female fans’ Islamic regime tells Iranian footballers
The Iranian football team currently in Australia for the Asian Cup has been warned by their government not to pose for photos with female fans.
Though women are banned from attending men's sports events in Iran, female fans have turned out in mass to watch the handsome footballers in Australia.
The head of the Iranian Football Federation's moral committee, Ali Akbar Mohamedzade, said players risked being used as a "political tool" if snapped with female fans. Ali Akbar Mohamedzade then convened a warning from the Islamic regime of Iran to the players after photos of players with female fans circulated on social media.
“National team players should be aware that they won't be used as a political tool so that those who take pictures with them don't use these photos against the players. So according to this they should not take photos with everyone. If the players don't respect this, we will be obliged to take action,” Ali Akba Mohamedzade said according to Iran’sShahrvand newspaper.
The nature of the actions that any defaulting player would face were however not revealed.
Iran who has won the Asian Cup three times, are already through to the quarter-finals.
