Wests Tigers resurgence continues against Souths

Wests Tigers continued their recent NRL revival with a 30-14 win against South Sydney Rabbitohs on Friday.

Wests made it three victories in four matches and damaged Souths' play-off hopes, with Michael Maguire's men now having suffered back-to-back defeats.

Mitchell Moses had a try ruled out for a knock-on after 15 minutes, but the stand-off went over shortly afterwards to open the scoring for the hosts.

Brilliant link-up play between Kevin Naiqama and Moses set up Tim Simona to take advantage of some sloppy defending as Wests scored again straight from the kick-off.

Alex Johnston replied to mark his 50th Souths appearance in style, but David Nofoaluma finished off another stunning Wests move to give his side a 14-4 lead at half-time.

Johnston crossed in the corner to cut the deficit but Chris Lawrence soon restored Wests' 10-point lead as Jason Taylor's men continued to dominate.

Souths had come from 18-0 behind in their last match against Gold Coast Titans only to lose to a golden-point field goal, but they could not battle back this time, while an injury suffered by Sam Burgess made it a night to forget for the visitors.

Naiqama powered over the line and Robbie Farah added another Wests score before superb work by Johnston created a late consolation try for Kirisome Auva'a, but Simona's late penalty completed Wests' second win against Rabbitohs in six weeks.
