Westwood hails 'phenomenal' Willett at Masters

Lee Westwood never doubted Danny Willett as the latter kept his composure to claim the Masters on Sunday.

Willett capitalised on a collapse from defending champion Jordan Spieth to claim the year's first major by three shots at Augusta.

The 28-year-old became just the second Englishman to win the green jacket, carding a final-round five-under 67.

Westwood, who played alongside Willett in the final round and ended up tied for second with Spieth, praised his countryman.

"He's always fairly jumpy but that's just his nature," he said.

"He didn't look nervous. He looked like he was always in control. He was hitting good shots and it was a very good round of golf.

"What did he shoot, 67? That's a great round of golf, last round of the Masters."

Westwood added: "He played phenomenally well today. When the pressure got on him towards the end, [he played] quality shots.

"[He hit a] great shot into 16, fantastic chip on 17, I don't think anybody at home can fully appreciate how good an up and down that was.

"And then two good shots at the last when it looks like he needs a four to win it."

In just his fifth tournament of the year, Westwood finished with a 69 to end up at two under.
