EC, Police set for Talensi by-election

 
 
The Electoral Commission also says all is set for tomorrow’s Talensi by-election

Baring any hitch, the Electoral Commission (EC) is ready to conduct the Talensi by-election slated for July 7, 2015.

According to the Upper East Regional Chairman of the Commission, James Arthur Yeboah, all the necessary materials to be used for the voting exercise such as ballot papers and Biometric Voting Device (BVD) have been secured waiting to be distributed to the various polling centres Tuesday dawn.

He said the elections will begin at 7am and end at 4pm as scheduled.

Ballot papers, registers and all equipment required for Tuesday’s polls will reach the various polling stations by close of day Monday.

He said biometric machines which will be used for the election have been improved and are better than those used during the 2012 general elections.

Eight political parties have been cleared to contest in the Talensi constituency by-election.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Upper East Regional Police Command, ASP Thomas Agbanyo speaking to Adom FM's morning show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ said the police in the region are ready to oversee the Talensi by-election.

He said everything needed for the elections – with regards to security – has been put in place to ensure that the elections are peaceful.

ASP Agbenyo said “we are ready for everything” adding that officials of the various parties are okay with developments.

A total of 40,000 registered voters are expected to cast their votes on Tuesday, July 7.
