Blackhawks make it eight, overtime goal lifts Hurricanes

The Chicago Blackhawks made it eight successive NHL wins with a 3-2 victory over the Nashville Predators on Tuesday.

Andrew Shaw contributed with a double to give the Blackhawks a 2-0 lead, before Brent Seabrook added a third at 13 minutes, 18 seconds into the second period.

Mike Ribeiro pulled one back for the Predators, with Filip Forsberg scoring on the power-play with 37 seconds to go in the third period, but it was too late for the visitors.

The win also meant Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville earned a 782nd NHL win, tying Al Arbour for second in the all-time list.

Carolina Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner scored a power-play goal with 1:58 remaining in overtime to seal a 3-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Hurricanes held a 2-0 advantage after goals from Eric Staal and Kris Versteeg, but the Penguins rallied to tie the game in the third period.

However, with a shoot-out looming, Skinner scored after being found by Elias Lindholm at the right post.

Brock Nelson scored his first NHL hat-trick and chimed in with an assist as the New York Islanders ran out 5-2 winners over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Buffalo Sabres secured back-to-back wins for the first time in almost a month after holding on for a 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild.

In other results, a Patrik Berglund double helped the St. Louis Blues to a 5-2 win over the New Jersey Devils, the San Jose Sharks topped the Winnipeg Jets 4-1 for a third-straight win, the Tampa Bay Lightning eased past Colorado Avalanche 4-0, while Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored with nine seconds left in overtime to give Arizona Coyotes a 4-3 win against the Edmonton Oilers.
