UN reports that over 115 children have been killed in a month

No fewer than 115 children have been killed and 172 maimed in a month of fighting in Yemen, this is according to the United Nations.

But a Unicef spokesman in Geneva said the agency believed its figure of 115 was a conservative estimate while the UN humanitarian coordinator for Yemen, Johannes van der Klaauw, warned that the country's escalating conflict had put its health system at "imminent risk of collapse".

He added that  the violence had disrupted supplies of food, fuel, water and electricity across the country and left an estimated 2 million children unable to attend school.

UN reports that at least 551 civilians have been killed in the conflict - more than half the overall estimated death toll while over 150,000 people have been displaced by the violence in Yemen.

Yemen has been locked in clashes between the Houthi rebels and forces loyal to president, Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi with Saudi Arabia and allied Arab states carrying out air strikes since March with the declared aim of restoring exiled the exiled president Hadi.
