One week after Ebony's death, what we know so far

Different narratives have been given about what actually happened before and after Ebony's death. Here is what we know so far.

On Friday (February 9, 2018), Ghanaians woke up to the unexpected demise of fast-rising dancehall artiste Priscilla Opoku Kwarteng, popularly referred to as Ebony Reigns.

Here is what has been said so far.

The Police

The District Commander for Mankraso Superintendent John Adusei, in the Ashanti Region, confirmed the accident the day it happened.

“My officers went there and identified the bodies of 3 persons (2 females and a male), including Ebony. Ebony was on board a jeep with registration number AS 487-16.”

“The driver of Ebony’s vehicle veered off the road and crashed into the VIP bus,” he added.

The driver Chartey Oko Pinehad, aged 29, was driving from Sunyani to Accra with three occupants on board, whilst suspect driver Mohammed Abubakar aged 48 years, was also driving KIA Grad Bird [VIP] bus with registration No. GT 3232-17 from Accra to Sunyani with a set of passengers on board.

On reaching a section of the road between Nyamebekyere and Nsuta, there was a heap of sand in the lane of the Jeep which was being used for the road maintenance, and the driver in trying to avoid running into the sand, swerved onto the opposite lane and grazed the nearside portion of the bus and plunged into the railings at the edge of the road, killing the three other occupants identified as Francisca Nkansah Kuri aged 27 years, Priscilla Opoku Kwarteng [Ebony], and Lance Corporal Vondee Francis Atsu, aged 29 years.

Bullet

Reacting to the death of Ebony, her manager Ricky Osei Agyeman ‘Bullet’ told Pulse.com.gh that the death came to him as a shock and he believed it was a dream.

Bullet who gave the artiste the name Ebony said on the first day they met she told him of a prophecy which indicated that he (Bullet) will be the one to help her grow her music career.

He said on Accra-based Okay FM, Ebony said a prophetess she encountered at a prayer meeting (at Mamfe where she attended Secondary School before she dropped out) told her “My daughter, you will become a very big star, but you will die at your peak.”

The Father

The number one fan of Ebony, Nana Opoku Kwarteng who is also her father said on the morning after the death that she informed him of the trip at about 10 pm on Thursday night, an account from the police reveal she was involved in the ghastly accident one and half hours later.

He told Accra-based Joy Fm that: "She left home on Thursday saying she was going to see her mum. The Mum just returned from the United Kingdom and she said she was going to see her. I asked if she was driving herself because it was late. She told me she was going with her driver, her bodyguard who was a soldier and a friend. It was around 10 PM.”

Nana Opoku Kwarteng subsequently described as irritating the superstition and prophecies going about after the demise of his daughter.

Ebony’s father, said that he believes his daughter has accomplished his earthly mission and left at the appointed time.

“I believe that you can’t change anything in the world. Nature does it in its own way as it demands. I’ve heard some of the prophecies but I believe it was time for Ohemaa to die. She was not immortal. We will all die one day. She was assigned purposely for something and she accomplished it.”

Zylofon Boss

Boss of Zylofon Media, Nana Appiah Mensah in a tribute to Ebony disclosed that she begged him to pay his manager off so she could be free.

He further revealed that he had met up with Ebony and had agreed on terms of contract with Ebony and was on the verge of signing her until her demise.

In a Twitter post, he wrote “We had a fruitful meeting and reached an Agreement just last Tuesday. “Please help me pay him for my bailout. I want to be free”. I hope you’re free now & finds absolute peace in the bosom of the almighty God. Let’s pay CRITICAL ATTENTION to our female artists.”
