Airport spokesman Bertrand Staempfli said her frustrated parents got in touch with the Swiss police, who tracked her progress through the airport on security videos.

The little girl managed to outsmart security officials at the gate of the airport and carried herself as the child of adults who were coincidentally around her at that moment.

The airport said in a statement that the girl used her small stature to slip through the departure gate without being noticed and boarded a plane.

Initially when she tried to follow a crew toward the plane, she was prevented, but she maneuvered her way into the crowd and pretended she was looking for her parents.

She was noticed and handed over to the police after she eventually managed to board a particular plane whose identity the airport is unwilling to disclose.

It only hinted that the plane was leaving from the airport’s French sector and the destination was in France.

Airport spokesman Bertrand Staempfli said in the statement that the incident has called for tighter safety rules and boarding procedures at the airport, saying it was a “highly regrettable incident” and “should never have happened.”
