6 things you do that could shorten your lifespan

Are you sitting down while reading this? Well, that could be shortening your lifespan.

Truth is, from the moment we’re born, we’re all dying just as we’re living. But certain ordinary things we do every day may actually be helping us get there faster.

None of this means we should even try to eliminate these behaviors from our lives entirely, but it’s proof that overdoing anything, even when seemingly innocuous, can have serious impacts on our health.

Pulse.com.gh brings you 6 things you do that shorten your lifespan.

  • The fear of death

This is a common concern because it is one that all of us face. Terrorist attacks, cancer, natural disasters and mutated viruses are a constant reminder that the end might be right around the corner.

If you are harboring death anxiety, you might want to stop. Researchers report that holding onto the fear of death is associated with shortening the life of cancer patients.

Healthy, individuals with ongoing fears about terror attacks have an increased incidence of physician-diagnosed hypertension.

  • Drinking too much

Despite the fact that you make very careless, reckless decisions when you are intoxicated, it is actually bad for your insides too.

Excessive alcohol consumption can lead to liver damage, heart attack, loss of fertility, cancers and high blood pressure.

If you are not washing your hands properly, using antibacterial soaps, after getting back home from the gym, or from the polluted streets, if you do not shower well or follow other such personal hygiene habits, then there would be a number of microbes which could get into your system and cause diseases that could lower your lifespan!

  • More sex

I know, it’s not the best of news is it? You may not want to believe it. Certainly plenty of people wish sex was as healthy as eating fruit, and we were being told to indulge frequently for our own good.

A study has been reported from the University of Sheffield, the UK, which shows shunning sex is conducive to a longer life.

  • Sitting down for long hours every day

Researchers say that physical activity and sedentary behavior independently affect your health and life expectancy.

Sitting for more than three hours a day can cut off a person’s life expectancy, even if he or she exercises regularly, a new study finds. Watching TV for more than two hours a day can shorten life expectancy even further, by another 1.4 years.

  • Sleeping too much and sleeping little

Most of us sleeping beauties out there love our shut-eye, but too much sleep isn’t that good for you – the same goes for not getting enough sleep.

Harvard Research found that lifespan can significantly decrease in those who average less than five or more than nine hours a night.
