Good Job Done? Akufo Addo commends Bawku Inter-Ethnic Peace Committee

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, has encouraged members of the reconstituted Bawku Inter-Ethnic Peace Committee (BIEPC) to remain focussed on their core mandate, and work hard to bring lasting peace to Bawku.

The NPP flagbearer, who was informed about the 3-day workshop of the committee taking place at the same hotel he was staying in, decided to pop in and encourage them on the importance of their work for Ghana.

Addressing, briefly, the members of the committee, whose meeting was aimed at the implementation of strategies to bring peace to Bawku, on Friday, September 19, Nana Akufo-Addo noted that the committee is doing an important work for Ghana, for which they must be commended.

Whilst wishing them success in their endeavour, the NPP flagbearer noted that in recent times, Bawku has been a flashpoint, resulting in the loss of life and the displacing of numerous residents.

It was therefore important, he said, that every effort be put in place to ensure that peace and harmony are made to prevail in this “important commercial town.”

Lasting peace in Bawku, Nana Akufo-Addo added, will be of immense benefit to the people, as economic activity, which over the years has been the hallmark of the town, will return, and bring in its wake the much needed prosperity for the people.

On behalf of the entire membership of BIEPC, Mr. Thomas Abilla, representing the Kusasis on the committee, warmly thanked Nana Akufo-Addo for interacting with them and offering his invaluable advice to them. He said they were “elated” at his presence.

He assured the NPP flagbearer, who was embarking on day 2 of his “Rise and Build” tour, that the committee would do all in its power to ensure that they hold discussions, devoid of their personal interests, geared towards the sustenance of peace in Bawku.

At the workshop were representatives of the two ethnic groups including Dr Sam Bugri, for the Mamprusis, members of the Regional Peace Council and the District Chief Executives of the five districts in the Bawku area.
