4 players bidding farewell this weekend

Here are four great legends of the Barclays Premier League who are bidding farewell after decades of playing in the premiership.

Frank James Lampard

For most of us,the end of the season cannot come soon enough.

The title race ended weeks ago, it seems no one wants to qualify for the Europa League and two of the three relegation slots are already filled.

It's only Newcastle and Hulls's race to the bottom that is keeping things interesting as we head into the final weekend of the season... and given Steve Bruce's record against Manchester United, the chances of fireworks seem low.

But there are a number of players who will be aiming to savour Sunday afternoon's final chapter: namely those who are bidding farewell to the Premier League.

Steven Gerrard

Where's he going?

Los Angeles, of course. Home of the film industry, celebrity culture, the Lakers, the Clippers, the Galaxy and, er, Robbie Keane. Glamour all round.

Many of Gerrard's best moments for Liverpool has come in cup competitions: from the goal against Olympiakos, the goal against West Ham and the Champions League final against Milan. He never won the league, of course, but there were some memorable achievements... not least his role in the Reds' unlikely title bid last term. He had 502 games played, 118 goals and 6 red cards.

Where's he going?

He's heading to New York – concrete jungle where dreams are made. There's nothing you can't do, Frank.

Like Gerrard, Lampard has a bundle of good memories in his suitcase, from his starring role in Chelsea's maiden Champions League success to a staggering haul of 22 goals in 2009/10 (a total that would have given him the Golden Boot in TEN Premier League seasons). His match-winning brace against Bolton in 2005 to seal the Blues' first top flight title in 50 years is also worth a mention. Frank played 608 times scoring 176 goals with three red cards.

Sylvain Distin

Your guess is as good as ours, but a move back to France might make sense. After all, he's been knocking about in England since 2001 and must be getting pretty fed-up with our rubbish bread and cheese by now. Could he follow in the footsteps of Florent Malouda and enjoy an Indian summer chez lui? He had 456 appearnces, one red card with 7 goals.

Brad Friedel

Where's he going?

To the big TV studio up in the sky.

Big Brad was a superb servant to Blackburn, Aston Villa and Spurs over the years, impressing with his positioning and shot-stopping ability. But his best moment came up at the other end: in February 2004, Friedel became only the second goalkeeper in Premier League history to score a goal, finding the net from a corner as Blackburn went down to Charlton, USA. He had 450 appearances, One goal and a red card.
