Rawlings to hold luncheon with veterans

The former president said that the luncheon will celebrate the senior citizens and also help to raise awareness about their welfare

On the occasion of his 70th birthday today, Ghana’s former president, Jerry John Rawlings has announced that he will celebrate the day with a lunch in honour of living Ghanaian World War II veterans and some senior citizens.

The former president, in a statement, said his aim is to remind Ghanaians about the enormous roles played by the World War II veterans in the country’s political history.

“Today’s luncheon in Accra will celebrate the senior citizens and also help to raise awareness about their welfare,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, the Klottey Korle MP Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has sent well wishes to her father on his 70th birthday.

The MP took to Facebook on Wednesday, June 21 to ask for blessings and strength for her father who has been a pillar in her life.

She said that she is convinced that “some day when the roll is being called, your name, J.J Rawlings, will be inscribed in gold”.
