Four political parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) and the United Freedom Party (UFP) are criss-crossing the length and breadth of the Amenfi West constituency, all in a bid to win the seat.

Four parties ready for Amenfi West bye-election
The bye-election is to be held in accordance with Article 112 (5) of the Constitution, following the sudden death of the Member of Parliament (MP), John Gyetuah, on October 13, 2015.

The four candidates are Mr Abraham Kwadwo Buadee, a 41-year-old accountant for the PPP, Mr Paul Derkyi, 43 a lawyer, for the NPP, Mr Elvis Adjei, a 30-year-old Loan Administrator for the UFP, Mr Eric Afful, 41-year-old Economist representing the NDC.
However, the Electoral Commission (EC) announced the holding of the bye-election on December 15, 2015, to elect a new member of parliament.

The Amenfi West Constituency since in 1992 had always voted NDC until 2003 when the then NDC member, Mr Kofi Asante resigned as MP.

Agnes Samfo won the seat on the ticket of the NPP in a bye-election and held the seat for a year and it returned to the NDC in the 2004 general elections and won it back in 2008 and 2012 respectively.
Though the seat has long been occupied by the NDC for many years, the opposition NPP believes there is a chance for the NPP to win that seat because the people of Amenfi West are tired of the bad governance of the NDC.
