Chairman of the 13- member committee selected to investigate what led to the defeat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the 2016 polls, Prof Kwesi Botchwey, has debunked reports that suggest the post-election committee tasked to look into the causes of the defeat of the NDC recommended that former President John Dramani Mahama be replaced as flag bearer for the 2020 elections.

According to him, the committee is not in the position to endorse who or who is not capable of running.

“It was not part of our mandate as a committee to recommend who should or should not stand as the party’s candidate in 2020, so, we didn’t recommend any such thing; not for former President Mahama or anybody else. It simply was not part of our mandate.” He emphasized.

The committee handed the official findings to the party leadership at the headquarters of the NDC in Accra on Monday, June 19.

Prof Botchwey said that the 455-page document contains details of what led to the defeat of the NDC.

The committee’s responsibility was to among other things make recommendations for the restructuring and reorganisation of the party to position it for the next general election in 2020.
