Black Stars deputy-skipper, Andre Ayew has called on fans to be present in their numbers when the team faces Ethiopia in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Sunday.

Kwesi Appiah’s men will take on the East African nation at the Baba Yara stadium as they start the qualification campaign towards Cameroon 2019.

The Black Stars have not enjoyed the best of relationships with the home fans since occurrences at the 2014 World Cup projected the players as mercenary-like characters.

Prior to that episode, the Black Stars used to enjoy large turnouts whenever they played in Accra and Kumasi.

The Baba Yara stadium, though, has not hosted a Black Stars game for almost two years now, with Black Stars matches being played at either Accra or Tamale.

However, with the team scheduled to return to Kumasi for the Ethiopia game, Ayew has called on the fans to put all differences aside and turn up in their numbers.

“This is a stadium [Baba Yara] where we have been coming to often, but all of a sudden, we switched to Accra and Tamale. But I think we were still playing in Ghana so it’s the same thing,” the West Ham United star is quoted as saying by GhanaSoccernet.com.

“It is true that when we are in Kumasi, we know that we have the fans behind us. They always push us to do better and give our best.

"I hope that on Sunday, the stadium will be packed and that we can start this campaign with a victory."

Ghana will face Ethiopia on June 11.
