Hearts team attacked in Kumasi, as officials suffer injuries

Some irate supporters of the Accra giants attacked their team bus and in the process injured two officials.

Patrick Razak’s equaliser saved Hearts of Oak blushes in a one all draw against Bechem United at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

In line with the Ghana Football Association’s new agreement with StarTimes for the coverage of the Ghana Premier League, it is an obligation for clubs to play some of their home league games away from their comfortable zones, so Hearts of Oak had to host Bechem United in Kumasi and quite a sizeable supporters of the Phobians who watched their darling club play ended up attacking the team in response to their poor performance lately.

In the course of the attack, the Administrative Manager of the Phobians, Hackman Aidoo and the Public Relations Officer, Kwame Opare Addo sustained injuries.

Kwame Opare Addo has stated that it was a hostile scene and hadn’t been the intervention of security personnel.

Kwame Opare Addo in an interview with Accra-based Asempa FM condemned the attack and called for patience among the fans.

“What happened at the Baba Yara stadium yesterday was unfortunate. We would have received some very bad news today if security wasn't present. I urge the supporters to calm down because I can say for a fact that no player, coach, or management member wants the team to lose”, he told Asempa FM.

Hearts of Oak have been having a terrible time in the ongoing Ghana Premier League and are lying 10 in the 16 club league.
