The boys from India return with the real story

Ghanaian footballer Phillip Adjah clears the air on reports made about him which suggested he and a colleague Richard Teyi Akumiha were stranded and facing jail terms in India

Teti Philp Aaadza touched down on Friday,12 January,2018 and was quick to narrate his story after an interaction with journalist Sammy Zigah.

According to Teti Phillip Aadza, he and his compatriot Richard Akumiha arrived at Kolkata and had been informed by their managers to go for trials at the Salt Lake Stadium. Apparently, they arrived at trial grounds late as they found difficulties in locating the pitch designated for the exercise.

“We were called by our managers to attend a justifier with a club in town and they gave us the coach's number.

“We called and inquired for directions but it was difficult to locate the grounds because the Salt Lake Stadium had several pitches and that made it difficult to figure out the right place.”

The two players made it to the grounds late and were asked to return for the trials in the next month as the one which they were attending was about ending. A few journalists who were covering the trials approached the players and that was the genesis of the reports which indicated that these two players were stranded and were facing jail terms.

“We later found out the venue, and to the coach asked us to come some other time (next month) as the justifier was left with about 10 minutes to end.

We were then approached by some journalists who asked where we were coming from and we replied by saying were from Ghana

They inquired about our purpose in India to and why the coach didn't allow us to take part in the trial exercise and Akumiha narrated our experience before arriving in Kolkata.”

Teti Phillip Aadza recounted the back story which was misconstrued by the publication made originally by Times of India.

“Our agent in Ghana liaised with another agent in India back in Ghana before we flew in to the India.

This was in order to get around easily and also communicate with our agent in Ghana.

We were picked up by a strange man in India who requested us to pay him $500 taking us to the team but we decided not to pay that amount so we ignored him.

This was because we had paid close to 10000 Cedis to our agent in Ghana and found no need to pay any money again.”

This was on the back of us being told we were travelling to sign for a club within a week after we arrive in India. We then realized that the club in question does not exist on arrival.”

However, Phillip in a turn of events has signed a one year deal with New Barrackpur Rainbow Athletic Club and is currently in Ghana to deal with visa arrangements before returning to India. He then went on state that earlier reports which indicated that they were stranded and are facing jail terms were inaccurate

“By God's grace we've been through it and now I have found myself a club here, I’ve signed one year contract. I ...It is fake news, I knew when the journalists took the picture of us, they had something in mind.”

“We were never stranded in India and we have not been arrested.”
