According to recent statistics from a study, Belgium has the highest number of gay weddings compared to other countries in the world.

The study had looked at the fast rise of gay weddings across countries who had accepted same-sex unions earlier (for about 10 years) - Belgium, Canada, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, and the US state of Massachusetts, comparing them to normal unions.

The results from the various countries with equality rights gathered by researchers showed that Belgium led the pack, with 24 same-sex weddings per thousand marriages – accounting for 2.4% of the total number. At the other end is Portugal, with just nine gay marriages per thousand (0.9%).

But Massachusetts which legalised same-sex weddings in 2004, technically led with 38 per thousand marriages (3.8%) but had dropped due to the legalization of gay marriages across all states in America.
