CAR vs Ghana: 'We have to win' – Otto Addo vows ahead of World Cup Qualifier clash

Ghana’s head coach Otto Addo says his side is fully prepared and determined to claim victory against the Central African Republic (CAR) in their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Wednesday at the Stade d’Honneur de Meknès in Morocco.

With only two matches remaining in the qualifying series, the Black Stars are focused on sealing their fifth World Cup appearance. Ghana currently sits top of Group I with 19 points, three ahead of Madagascar, and will be looking to secure an important win or draw before wrapping up the campaign at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Addressing the media ahead of the encounter, Addo revealed his satisfaction with the team’s preparation and attitude in camp.

He said,

We’ve had two and a half good sessions, and the players look sharp ahead of the game. We are in a comfortable position where we can look at ourselves and say we want to win this match

The Ghana boss emphasised that a win against CAR would put the team within touching distance of qualification.

He noted.

If we win this game, we have a high probability of qualifying for the World Cup. But this is just the first step.

Addo also urged his players to remain disciplined and focused for the full duration of the match, referencing the lessons learnt from their narrow victory over Chad.

He added,

We have to fight defensively, especially until the last minute. I have a very good feeling that we can keep a clean sheet and score one or two goals

The former Ghana international, who guided the team to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, brushed off talk of personal achievement, stressing that the focus remains on collective success.

I don’t think too much about myself; it’s about the team. We want to win this game tomorrow, and then we’ll see.

Ghana will wrap up their qualifying campaign on October 12, when they host Comoros in what could be the decisive match for a ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
