St. Peter’s SHS, also former champs, left no stone unturned as they dominated the entire competition to keep alive their hopes of lifting the trophy for the third time.
The New N Block of the University of Ghana, Legon, where the contest took place was full to capacity with supporters of the competing schools cheering their contestants on to success.
In the first round of the contest, Persco led with 14 whilst Augusco as well as YAGSS scored 12 and 9 points respectively.
The margin between the contesting schools began to widen as the contest progressed.
By the end of the fourth round, St. Peter’s SHS had won the contest as the margin was too wide for St. Augustine’s College to make a difference going into the final round of the competition.
At the end of the competition, Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ SHS managed to pull 22 points while St. Augustine’s College scored 32 points. The winners, St. Peter’s SHS got 53 points; the second highest score so far in the preliminaries.
St. Augustine’s College and Yaa Asantewaa SHS would have to keep their fingers crossed to find out if their scores are high enough to guarantee a place at the one-eighth stage of the 2017 National Science & Maths Quiz.
Eighteen (18) highest-scoring losing schools will qualify along with the 36 winning schools to the next stage of the contest.
Meanwhile, OLA SHS, Ho, Okuapemman SHS and Nkroful Agric SHS put up an exciting show to emerge victors of their respective contests.
Eighteen (18) slots are up for grabs before the start of the eighth stage of the contest which is slated for Monday, June 12, 2017.
The NSMQ on television is very popular with Senior High School students, parents and, especially, with former students (old boys and girls), who take great pride in the performance of their schools on this programme.
