A 22-year-old student who was shot by an unidentified gunman on Thursday at the Savannah State University (SSU) in Georgia has died.

Christopher Starks died on the same day.

According to a statement issued by SSU, Starks was shot after an altercation at the university's Student Union building.

SSU Communications Director, Loretta Hayward, urged students to always report to the authorities if they know someone has a gun in school.

"If students are aware of the presence of weapons, please think and act responsibly to disclose such information to a member of the faculty, staff or administration, or other figure of authority," Hayward said.

"While it may be natural to want to protect an associate, the lack of disclosure may do more harm than good.

gathered that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incidence with the help of SSU Police Department but no suspect has been identified nor any arrests made.

Starks was an upcoming rapper.

SSU urged those with information about the incident to contact the SSU Police Department.
