An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced a 27-year teacher to 10 years imprisonment for defiling his student.
He pleaded guilty to the charges of defilement labelled against him by state prosecutors.
In passing her judgement, the trial judge Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku said being a teacher put him in a position of trust and he assumes parental care of the victim.

The case
The complaint was a teacher and the victim's mother who resides with the victim at Madina, Accra.
The victim is a Junior High Student at a school in Abokobi where the convict teaches, according to the prosecutor.
The complainant on July 2017 travelled to her hometown Atebubu. She had left her phone with the victim and her sister so she could communicate with them, according to the prosecutor Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire.
He said anytime she called the victim, her line was busy.
When she returned on August 1, the victims younger sister told their mother that she has been making calls deep into the night.
While quizzing the victim, Emrys called. The call was put on loud speaker and the convict on could heard
questioning the 13-year old why she had refused to pick his phone calls.

The victim, prosecution said informed her mother that while she was away, the convict had sex with her on two occasions.
The prosecutor said on August 3, this year, a report was made to the Police and a medical form was issued so the victim could be examined and treated.
The convict was then picked up by the Police, Prosecution added.
