The writer and director did not give any reasons for his decision to quit the social networking site.
His new movie however, opened to the second-biggest box office ever, second only to the first Avengers. But Whedon has made some of his frustrations with the Marvel movie-making machine obvious. In a tweet sent before he deleted his account, he referenced Marvel executives, imagining them saying that they hope he didn’t tweet something controversial.
He had also begun to come into some criticism of how he portrayed Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow in the most recent Avenger's movie.
Whedon is just one of the many celebrities who have quit Twitter in recent times but his comedic output will be missed. It is not clear whether harassment, his relationship with movie executives and their contracts, or simple fatigue are what drove the ace director to make the decision.
