Sarkodie talks competition with M.anifest and more

To survive in this game has nothing to do with talent. Talent plays like 10 % and the 90% is your state of mind and how strong you are mentally.

In an exclusive interview with Akosua Konadu on the HardTruth, the BET award-winner, Michael Owusu Addo popularly called Sarkodie added that he doesn’t focus on competition, he always thinks about his fans first and that is why it took him a long time to build his first house.

Not because I don’t have but I don’t focus on it if I have it. Maybe I do but I don’t know. I am that type of person my career is like me swimming, I don’t get up to see. I am just going, I don’t look at who has won. You can go past someone for two years but that doesn’t mean you have won. I don’t believe in competition.

The Adonai hitmaker revealed that he always invest in his craft, save a little for his personal needs to keep him going in the game. He strives to give her million followers something to win their loyalty and support.

My philosophy has always been I came in to meet people and people were hailing Sarkodie as number 1 which is like a performance on stage when they call you. People scream but after 10  minutes you need to give them a reason why they should be on their feet till you are done.

And that is how music, the whole career is. If you don’t understand that concept, you find it difficult to embrace any new era of anything. When I came in, it was more of the hype thing, but now it’s more of what I can do.

The host asked the proud father-of-one if he sees his fellow rapper, Manifest as his biggest nightmare because of how he weaves poetic languages.

Sarkodie, who has collaborated many international artistes said,

You have to be very deep to be in my field. To survive  in this game has nothing to do with talent. Talent plays like 10 % and the 90% is your state of mind and how strong you are mentally. That has kept me in the game to date. If you understand what you are into, your approach is different.

We don’t have the best rapper.  Anybody you are trying to compete with has someone in front of the person and the only way is being contented and knowing what you stand for.

You are going to be the only one doing it, there will a lot of people doing it. You need to concentrate on who you are impacting, the sarknation, sarknative, sarkholics come in. Those are the people I focus on. I really do commend anybody who comes into the game.
