Akwaboah’s signing with SarkCess Music; A blessing in disguise

Some entertainment critics believe Akwaboah’s signing with SarkCess Music is perilous due to some obvious factors but Pulse Music editor, David Mawuli thinks otherwise. He delves into Sarkodie and Akwaboah’s chemistry, and projects the deal is a blessing.

Sarkodie and Akwaboah

Some entertainment critics do not agree with Akwaboah’s signing to SarkCess Music – a record label owned by rapper Sarkodie.

After his signing was announced on Monday, March 14, some industry players and social media commentators projected the signing may bring Akwaboah’s already flourished musical career to an abrupt end due to a range of issues, including;

Sarkodie’s disorganised management

Apart from DJ Mensah, who is known as Sarkodie’s official DJ, Lawyer Cynthia Jumu Quarcoo, who acts as his official lawyer, and Angel Town, who performs his PA roles, none of his management members can be identified with a specific task on his management team. Over the years, many entertainment followers found it difficult to point out the responsibilities of a particular member on his team.

Till this day, no one knows who manages Sarkodie’s social media handles and marketing, his PR, publicity, promotions and bookings, and this leaves many with fear that Akwaboah’s career could be in danger.

His inaccessible management

Most media people or journalists can attest to this. Getting access to Sarkodie for even interviews is one of ‘a hell of a nation’. It’s difficult to reach Sarkodie for what will benefit his career. It’s either his PA, Angel Town refusing your call/text messages or waiting until the management finds its own comfortable time for you.

As for the foreign media, it’s easy to grant them interviews. No wonder Kwasi Aboagye, the host of Entertainment Review on Peace FM bounced him a couple of months ago.

Even come to think of who really manages Sarkodie? The first 2 to 3 years after Sarkodie hit the limelight, Doctor Duncan was known to be the “Baby” hitmaker’s manager. Then all of a sudden, Sammy Forson came into the scene and confusion was created. Till today, no one knows who really manages Sarkodie and many are asking who will manage Akwaboah.

This has caused fear for Akwaboah’s shining career but I think otherwise. His signing to SarkCess Music may look dangerous but it can propel his career to greater heights due to one factor and that is Sarkodie’s brand.

Though the “New Guy” rapper and his record label may have some loopholes in its managerial dealings, his brand has been his salvage. His brand, “Sark”, is even bigger and popular than some corporate bodies in this country and that alone could give Akwaboah some good looks. Sarkodie has gained international clouts and links to international media houses, corporate bodies and the music market due to his brand. Don’t forget about his numerous international awards.

Aside that, Sarkodie and Akwaboah’s chemistry jells. All the work they have done together came out 100%.

Gladstorm Kwabena Akwaboah Jnr. as he is known in real life isn’t just a signee on the SarkCess Music record label, he is a great addition who can impact greatly on the label.

Akwaboah, who is known for producing the entire "Mary" album by Sarkodie is the grandson of Highlife legend Kwabena Akwaboah, son of the legendary Kwadwo Akwaboah and a former member of famous Mariots International Band.

He wrote "Daa Ke Daa" for Becca and "Ayeyi Ndwom" for DSP Kofi Sarpong. Both songs won their respective artistes' awards at the 2010 Ghana Music Awards with Akwaboah subsequently being adjudged the "Song Writer for the Year" for "Daa Ke Daa".

Akwaboah, who is a master keyboardist, has played for several local and international artistes including Hugh Masekela and John Legend, and has assisted several musicians to make it big in the industry.

Therefore, joining an already big brand like Sarkodie’s shouldn’t be a matter of fear, it should be a matter of more success in his career.
