Zimbabwe re-wrote its aviation history last week when the country witnessed its first all female flight deck crew flying Air Zimbabwe’s Boeing 737.

The picture of the all female flight crew which stunned many went viral after it was posted on facebook.

Air Zimbabwe posted pictures of the maiden all female deck crew on its Facebook page while Captain Chipo M. Matimba also shared photos of the groundbreaking moment.

Cpt Matimba wrote: “History has been made! First all female flight deck crew on the Air Zimbabwe Boeing 737! Two CAPTAINS!! Absolute pleasure Captain Elizabeth Simbi Petros! #FLYBABES. #PaintingTheSkyPink!”.

The flight from Harare to Victoria Falls was flown by Captain Chipo M. Matimba and Captain Elizabeth Simbi Petros, who flew the B737 – 200.

After the flight, Captain Petros, wrote on her Facebook page, “Air Zim First:- All Women 737 Flight Deck Crew!!!! Flt to Vic Falls This Morning.Was A pleasure Skipper Chipo Matimba!!!!!!”

The news has been shared and celebrated across various social media platforms.

This is not the first time women in Africa have made awesome reforms in the aviation section, recently, 28 year-old Lieutenant Ouma Laouali from Niger became the first female pilot to serve in the country’s Armed Forces, flying the Cessna aircraft, a “combat caravan”, used for various military operations.

The news was also greeted with much celebration on social media and carried on various news sites.
