Ecobank Ghana has reduced its branches from 77 to 66.
This follows the disengagement of 181 outsourced staff of the bank effective September 4, 2017.
In an interview with Head of Corporate Communications at Ecobank, Ghana and Anglophone West Africa (AWA), Rev Patricia Sappor, told B&FT Newspaper that they will merge the branches that are closer to each other.

“We have disengaged some of our outsourced staff due to most of the clients moving onto our digital platforms. We have our Masterpass QR which makes prompt payment possible, POS, ATMs, the Ecobank App and internet banking,” she said.
“Some areas have branches just about 200 metres away from each other. It is prudent for the bank to merge.”

She said this is due to the digital agenda of the bank.
The bank recently indicated its agenda to become the most digitally advanced bank.
Currently, over 70 percent of its client’s transactions are taking place on its digital channels instead of walking into a branch.
