But there should be a way to go about it. Here are tips on how to support them.

• Do not call.

It is already a difficult moment for them. Calling them may be overwhelming.

• Send them a text.

You can send them a text via Whatsapp, text, email or any means of reaching out to them without calling. A visit may not be necessary at this time.

In your text let them know you have their backs and will be there if they need to talk.

• Mind what you post on social media

Your friends and family who have been affected are on social media too. They will be reading what you put up on social media. If you really are there for them you should not put up post that seems to mock them.

• Do not ask for details or what management

Supporting them does not mean, asking for details and what management has been telling them.

Supporting them means just listening to them when they need someone to talk to.

• Mind your words

Be very cautious what you say around them. Think through your statements carefully before speaking. It may offend them.

Better still say less, just be there for them.
