HBR notes that ex-Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn, who resigned a few weeks back over the emissions scandal currently engulfing the company as the list was going to press, is ranked No. 20 based on the company’s financial data through April 30.
All in all, MBAs are still the top badge of honor, albeit decreasingly so with 26 of the top 100 CEOs possessing the degree, compared to 29 last year.
The top CEOs are in consumer goods, financial services, and healthcare. Diversity is also still an issue as only 2 women make the list of the top 100 CEOs.
In compiling the ranking, HBR considers total shareholder return and the change in each company’s market capitalization. HBR added a measurement of each company’s environmental, social, and governance performance this year.
