New feature that lets users share Photos, video and links launched

Followers are able to see the pubic posts on the Google+ stream or curate them selectively. Early testers for the feature have centred groups around make-up tips, video games and so on.

Google+ is rolling out a new feature called Collections, and it lets users post and package photos, videos and links around particular topics.

Google’s social platform has labored to come to life and it has fallen very short of Facebook in dedicated users. Since the departure of its creator, Vic Gundotra, back in April 2014, Google has moved the social network to within its broader communications products.

Google has repeatedly shot down rumors of it scrapping the network and putting it to rest. In October 2013, it claimed that the site had 300 million monthly users, but it has not updated that number since then.

It is clear that the products latest face-lift is geared at trying to turn its many dormant users be more active. It’s also an opportunity for Google to rake in more Intel on shared photo and video information.

Collections tops off a terrible period for Google+ since the departure of Gundotra. David Besbris, his replacement, lasted less than a year at the helm of affairs. In March, Bradley Horowitz, a Google+ VP and one of Gundotra’s lieutenants, took charge of the network along with Photos.
