Hundreds of Ghanaian labourers working with DESIMONI Ltd, an Italian Company constructing an Ultra Modern State of the Art Guesthouse for Bank Of Ghana in the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolis are embarking on a peaceful sit down strike to press home their demand for better conditions of service.

One employee who gave his name as Vandyke in an interaction with journalists describes as a pity how one of their colleagues who lost one of the arms recently in the course of duty is being treated.

He claims the employers are refusing to compensate the worker who had the life threatening injury when operating a concrete Mixer Machine in April.

He said the employers argued that the said worker was not there as a certified machine operator but only as a labourer.

What makes matters worse is the reluctance of the company to provide them with convenient transportation, the workers say.

They are therefore calling for a daily transportation fare of five Ghana cedis with the employers only willing to give them 3 cedis.

The employees have been given the option to either accept what management is offering them or quit effective Tuesday May, 31.

Reports also suggest that the workers are being persuaded to work pending an amicable settlement.

The Ultra Modern Bank of Ghana Guess House situated in Butumegyabu near Fijai is a four Storey building which will have a swimming pool, Shopping Mall, clinic among others.

It is expected to be completed within three years from the start of the project.
