Maxwell Adam Mahama was lynched on Monday, May 29, 2017, by residents of Denkyira Obuasi on suspicion that he was an armed robber. Over 50 people were arrested in connection to his death.
Barbara wrote an emotional message for his dead husband on behalf of her children and herself as the world celebrated Father's day 2017.

In her message, she said she could not go out on father’s day because she would cry the whole time.
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, President Akufo-Addo, ex-president John Mahama, head pastor of World Wide Miracle Outreach, Dr. Lawrence Tetteh and among other personalities have donated to sponsor the education of Late Major Mahama’s children education.
A bevy of Ghanaian celebrities also visited the family before and after his final funeral rites.
