The move by Melcom is to improve accessibility and convenience shopping for the people in and around Kumasi.
Melcom started their journey in 1989 and have gradually become the supermarket where Ghana shops. It is Melcom's 30th year in existence.
Having established the first shop in Accra Central in 1989, Melcom moved to Kumasi Adum for their second shop in 1991 before moving to the then Western Region of Ghana a year later with a shop in Takoradi.
The supermarket more than doubled their numbers in the next decade opening a shop in Koforidua in 2006, Nkawkaw in 2008, Sunyani and Tema in 2010, Ho in 2011, Aflao in 2012, Assin Fosu and Bolgatanga in 2013, Tarkwa and Swedru in 2014 and Wa in 2017. In the same period, Melcom opened other locations in Kumasi and Accra where they already had shops. Melcom also has a shop in Bawku, the Upper East region of Ghana.
The new shops in Kumasi seek to add to the ever-growing determination by Melcom to have more shops as Ghana’s largest chain of retail department stores and decrease the hustle of shoppers in Ghana.
