We'll never accept Nkrumah as the founder of Ghana - NPP MP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Adansi-Asokwa, K.T Hammond, has said the NPP will never accept Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah as the founder of Ghana.

He said Ghana's first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah's contributions are well documented in the struggle for independence, however, it will be wrong to suggest that he was the pioneer.

K.T. Hammond said this during the debate on the new changes on public holidays in Parliament.

The Minority in Parliament staged a walkout to express their disapproval for the holiday Amendment Bill currently before the House which seeks to scrap Republic and AU days as public holidays and introduce August 4 as Founders’ Day and January 7 as Constitution Day leaving September 21 as a commemorative day.

"Let’s get history right; how can you say that there is only one founder in this country?", he said on Citi FM.

"If they come to power and change it, we will come back and change it…we will never never accept that Kwame Nkrumah was the founder of Ghana".
