Huawei passes Microsoft as third-largest mobile phone maker

Windows Phone's struggles are well documented, but the latest figures make even bleaker reading for Microsoft.Data from industry analyst Strategy Analytics suggests that Huawei has displaced Microsoft as the world's third-largest phone maker.The Chinese firm is said to have shipped 30.6 million handsets in the last quarter, a year-on-year growth of 50%, while Microsoft shipped 27.8 million.This gives Huawei a 7% share of all global phone shipments, behind only Apple with 10% and market leader Samsung on 20.5%.Huawei is also said to be the world's third-biggest phone seller, having overtaken fellow Chinese company Xiaomi over the last year.Microsoft is currently rolling out Windows 10 to PC users. No doubt the firm is hoping that its cross-platform operating system holds the key to kickstarting Windows Phone.
