Afena-Gyan has been one of the best performers in Italy’s Primavera 1 since joining AS Roma in January 2021.
The teenager has been in impressive form for AS Roma’s U19 team, having scored four goals this season.
The young centre-forward earned his first call-up to the senior team in September and was again invited to train with them during the October international break.
Mourinho seems to be a huge fan of Afena-Gyan, with the striker demonstrating his quality and consistency in the youth team.
Some weeks ago, the Ghanaian spoke highly of the Portuguese manager and said he has a great relationship with him.
"He [Mourinho] came to me and asked who was the best player in Ghana,” the 18-year-old said of his encounter with Mourinho.
“And when I answered him, he later mentioned Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari. He tapped my shoulder and told me to work hard."
Afena-Gyan is a player signed on to Ghanaian super-agent Oliver Arthur’s Arthurlegacy Sports Management Limited.
