C.K Akunnor targets top four finish with Dreams FC

Dreams FC want to win the Ghana Premier League or finish among the top four club in the 2016 season.

Five points separate

Head coach of Dreams FC, Charles Kwabena Akunnor, has set sights on either winning the league title or finishing among the best four teams in the domestic league at the end of the season.

The journey to his goal begins in Sogakope on Wednesday against West Africa Football Academy (WAFA), and he said he is preparing very well for the test against the Academy Boys at the Red Bull Arena.

He admits WAFA have the tendency to dominate the game, but his team won't be stupid to allow them penetrate his set up.

"We believe the match against WAFA is a matter of proper organisation. There are situation we should understand that they can possess the ball more than us, but is important that they don't penetrate. We will always have to see the ball in front of us, we must defend well and look forward to counter-attack them," the former Hearts of Oak trainer said his pre-match press conference.

Eighteen points to fight for between now and September 17 and the camp of Dreams FC is cautiously optimistic of their chances of succeeding Ashanti Gold as the champions of Ghana football.

"Outwardly, we say 'we want to survive (in the Premier League) but inwardly, we all know what we can achieve. Not to say we have decided to say that we want to do it but If you look at the teams, it is possible...there a lot of possibilities and we will work towards it.

"I believe we against WAFA we can get a point or a win. I don't expect us to lose, I don't also expect us to go there not to be intelligent in the game. Dreams are such that we look at the opponent very well, assess them and then have a tactical play and that's what we are going to do.

"I strongly believe that we will go there and be intelligent. We will not be stupid and open up and allow them to play. We looking forward to this game and it is important for us to be discipline -- tactically discipline," he said.

The mitochondrion of the Kweiman-based club this season has been the industrious and incisive Emmanuel Lomotey. However, injuries of late has curtailed his presence in C.K's set to cause the major havoc he is known for in the last five matches.

Akunnor says he has a well balanced team with quality replacements who have helped him achieve the objectives, though he admits the absence of 'key' players is often a worry.

"We have a lot of players and they should be given the opportunity when it is necessary. We've not had Emmanuel Lomotey for the past five matches or so but we've done well. It tells you the strength of the team and how it is well balanced. Sometimes it is not good when your key players are missing but we have a balanced team and we are managing it.

"We have to try all we can to get the points. We have a target where we can reach forty points as early as possible and also look at top four. We are fifth and there are lot of possibilities that we can achieve that. These are the things we are looking forward to and I believe strongly that we can achieve that," he said.

Dreams FC's last six matches of the season includes: WAFA, Techiman City, Wa All Stars, Bechem United, Inter Allies and Ebusua Dwarfs.
