It was a game defined by free kick specialists as Inter Allies and Medeama SC shared honours at the Tema sports stadium on match week 23 of the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League.
"That is his eighth free kick goal this season" was the phrase commentators at the Tema Sports Stadium press box used several times after Akwesi Donsu's stunner from about 30-yards early in the first half ensured Prince Owusu's side opened the scoring.
The equaliser was equally delicious from Gockel Ahortor from a similar distance, but Osei Kwame's last minute penalty save from the headline in a game played in competitive spirit.
The Mauve and Yellows were spectacular from the onset and deservedly earned the first goal, but an improved Inter Allies with quarter an hour to play.
Inter Allies, dining with relegation as the season wore on, barely had the opportunity to dictate the tempo of the game, with Akwesi Donsu, Samuel Bio and Kwame Boahen terrorising the Eleven Is To One in midfield and final third, whilst Paul Aidoo and Victor Ayire marshalled the backline with aplomb.
Chances were far and even in the early exchanges. However, a foul on Kwame Boahen in Inter Allies' yard was all Medeama SC needed to stamp their authority in the game. Akwesi Donsu, who already had 9 goals, 7 of which were from free kicks, took responsibility and hit the ball beyond Osei Kwame to register his 10th goal and 8th goal fr direct free kick.
Inter Allies were disentangled there on, allowing Medeama SC to the roll the ball around the pitch for fun, but were unable to grab the needed cushion. The Eleven Is To One had their share of the possession late on the first half, but their play was fruitless.
The second department of the game was more of individual brilliance as substitute Evans Mensah and Frederick Yamoah took the game to Medeama from either flanks, with the former forcing a save from Daniel Agyei.
Isaac Osae and Frederick Boateng followed up when they had their own share of the early chances created, but neither of them was hazardous enough to give Prince Owusu thoughts of relinquishing his lead.
Decisions from match day official infuriated both technical benches as they protested the discretion of the referee with venom.
The challenges were heavy and crisp, forcing the referee to stamp his authority with verbal warning on several occasions. He however did not issue a card in the entire game.
And on the 74th minute, Gockel Ahortor got spectators off their feet with a beauty of an equaliser after Isaac Osae was brought down by Paul Aidoo.
Medeama SC reacted to losing their lead as they seeked to end their three games successive defeat, forcing Osei Kwame into world class saves. Evans Mensah was adjudged to have brought down Samuel Bio in the penalty box with 2 minutes play. Abass Mohammed stepped up, but Kwame stretched all to save his effort from 12 yards.
And neither side could score again.
